From Sketch to Stitch: DIY Pet Clothing Course
Showcasing 5 Projects
Part 1 :Basic Pattern Making
In this section, you will learn the essential skills of hand-drafting patterns tailored specifically to your pet’s body.
This module focuses on:
- How to take accurate body measurements to ensure a perfect, comfortable fit
- Creating a basic pattern (or sloper) that serves as the foundation for any clothing design
- Drawing sleeves and collar patterns using simple formulas and practical experience
- Handmade paper pattern making – no software or complicated tools needed
By the end of this unit, you’ll have your own custom-fit pattern prototype based on your pet’s unique shape. This base pattern can be used again and again as the starting point for designing any style of clothing — from shirts to coats and beyond.
part2: Pet Shirt / Top
In this module, you’ll create a variety of simple yet stylish tops and shirts for your pet — perfect for everyday wear or seasonal occasions.
You’ll learn how to:
- Use your custom-fit base pattern to draft different shirt styles
- Add design elements like round necks, V-necks, and collar details
- Incorporate openings (e.g. front placket or side seams) with clean finishing
- Apply elastic or binding at sleeves and bottom hems for comfort and fit
This project introduces essential sewing techniques such as straight stitching, seam finishing, and neckline binding — all while creating a wearable, personalized outfit for your pet.
By the end of this section, you’ll have completed your first handmade pet garment and gained the confidence to move on to more complex designs.

You’ll learn how to:
- Draft a custom-fit skirt or dress pattern using your base sloper

part5:Pet Winter Coat / Jacket
This module introduces your first layered garment project, designed to keep your pet warm and cozy during the colder months.
You’ll learn how to:
- Modify your base pattern for a winter coat — allowing room for layers and movement
- Choose appropriate outer and inner fabrics (e.g. water-resistant shell + soft fleece lining)
- Cut and assemble both the outer shell and lining separately before joining them together
- Handle bulkier seams and hems with professional finishing techniques
This project introduces essential skills such as:
- Matching and aligning outer and inner layers
- Installing hidden openings for easy wear and adjustment
- Adding insulation or padding for extra warmth (optional)
